Second Regiment Rhode Island Volunteers
Stephen originally served as Sergeant of Company "F", Second Regiment Rhode Island Volunteers. He was promoted to Ordnance Sergeant, 2nd Lieutenant and finally 1st Lieutenant. He fought in the Battle of Gettysburg, PA July 1-4, 1863.
