1st Lt. Viani served with the 1st Cavalry Division between 1989 and 1992. He deployed with the 1st Cavalry Division to Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In Operation Desert Storm, coalition forces, led by the United States, quickly liberated Kuwait and pursued Iraqi Forces back into Iraq. A ceasefire was then ordered.
