Joseph Wilbur Mayne Bio
Joseph Wilbur Mayne born 31 March 1917 in Bessemer, PA one of six children. He grew up in Elwood City, PA and later attended Ohio Wesleyan University for 3 years in the ROTC program before being commissioned in the US Army in 1942 as a 1st Lt. Field Artillery Commander.
He served in the battles of Guadalcanal, New Guinea, Northern Solomons and Luzon. He was wounded on 6 April 1945 and received a Purple Heart.
He was Honorably discharged on 14 February 1946.

He returned to Ohio Wesleyan University to complete his BA degree.
He met and married Gertrude Beattie and they had four children, Marilyn, Douglas, Barbara, and Richard.
The family moved to Mesa, Arizona in July of 1960, for health reasons. He loved History and enjoyed teaching. He taught 6th grade in the Mesa Public School System and retired in 1974. He passed away in 1976 in the Prescott Veterans Hospital. He was a loving husband and father who fought honorably for his country. Dad, we thank you for fighting for our country and our freedom, we are forever grateful.
