First Lieutenant John Carlisle served as a Navigator-Bombardier flying in the B-25 Mitchell with the 439th Bombardment Squadron, 319th Bombardment Group during the air offensive against Japan during World War II. He was recalled to duty during the Korean War where he flew with the 34th Bomb Squadron, 17th Bomb Wing flying 56 misions in the B-26 Invader and earning the "Distinguished Flying Cross" for his actions there.
