American Campaign, World War II Victory
He enlisted at age 17, served as an Apprentice Seaman in the Navy's V-12 program for officer training, was commissioned at the University of Notre Dame, and defended the U.S. Atlantic coast from the Arctic Circle to the Equator as Gunnery Officer aboard the destroyer USS Macomb.
