Ozie Cooksey was born in Bearden Ark on May 25, 1919. He was born to Sid and Olivia Parham Cooksey. He had 3 brothers and 3 Sisters: Fannie, Edna, Icy, Drew, Cornelius, and Timothy. Ozie married Vera Lee Gaston in 1940 and joined the US Army in 1941 Ozie W Cooksey was a Corporal in the US Army in World War II. He served his country as a winch Operator with a Marksman Carbine Designation. He received several ribbons and Medals: Philippine Liberation, Bi Vico, Victory Medal, American Defense, American Theater, Asiatic Pacific Theater and Good Conduct. Ozie and his wife Vera Lee (Gaston) moved to Atwater CA in 1957 and he lived in Atwater for the rest of his life. He worked as a pipelayer for 31 years. Ozie and Vera had 5 children: Pearl, Allen, Ricky, Phyllis, and Renae, 11 Grandchildren: Vera, Machale, Jason, Ricky Jr, Kevin, Loren, Ashley, Andrew, Tasia, Tyler and Tyler, 12 Great Grand Children: Keoni, Kaley, Victoria, William, Chanel, Clarence (CJ), Nic, Gabe, Sidney, Bryce, Kayla, and Jacari;2 Great Grandchildren in-law Bryce and Logan, 4 Great-Great Grand Children: Bryce, Raven, Kamari, and Kayden. Ozie Wilbur Cooksey died in 1993 at the age of 73 in Merced, California. He Loved his family, and his family loved him. We are grateful for his service to our country.
