Akira Marsden

Akira's deep and unwavering patriotism led him ot follow in his father's footsteeps and he served with the Marine Corps.  All that knew him can attest to his deep love for his country and genuine loyalty to his friendships. 

Early Life, Roots And Athleticism

Akira was born on January 28, 1958, in Iwakuni, Japan, to Bruce and Fujiko Marsden. As the eldest of five children, he grew up with a protective and guiding spirit that stayed with him throughout his life.

From an early age, Akira stood out as an athlete. He discovered a passion for competitive swimming and set a formidable breaststroke record at Morse High School that endured for more than 20 years. His drive and discipline carried beyond the pool as he later completed two full marathons, demonstrating the same endurance that defined him in youth.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Akira proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. After completing his service, he built a long and dedicated career at Lloyd’s Pest Control, working faithfully for more than 35 years.

Though his formal enlistment ended, Akira remained a Marine at heart for the rest of his life, embodying the spirit of Semper Fidelis. He often joked that his birthday was November 10th—the official Marine Corps Birthday—because he loved the Corps and took genuine pride in its traditions. He was also deeply grateful to have lived to see the Marine Corps celebrate its 250th birthday in November 2025.

Akira Frederick Marsden, 67, passed away on December 13, 2025, at the VA Hospital in Long Beach following a courageous battle with cancer. His life reflected courage, loyalty, and love, shaped by dedicated service, a strong work ethic, and an enduring devotion to his family.

Akira’s legacy of strength, resilience, and love continues through his family. He is survived by his son, Bruce Akira Marsden, and his two grandsons, Hayden and Sage. He also leaves behind three sisters, Midori, Yuki, and Fumi, with whom he shared a close and lasting bond. Akira was reunited in peace with his sister, Dr. Harue J. Marsden, who preceded him in death.
