Commander Peck served 28 years in the U.S. Navy. During WWII he flew the TBF Avenger in combat over Guadalcanal, the Trersury Islands and Buogainville. He later transitioned to the F6F Hellcat at Lingayen Gulf, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was shot down over the Treasury Islands in June of 1943 and was missing in action for three months. He was rescued and returned to action, later downing three enemy aircraft in April 1945.
