Joseph commanded the 548th AntiAircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in combat action from Normandy, France to the Elbe via Belgium, Holland and Germany. In support of the 102nd Infantry Division his unit shot down 64 enemy aircraft. His unit was called by the Division CG as a "Top Flight, A-1 Outfit."
Colonel Joseph F Oliver II, father-in-law of Susan M Oliver. Battalion commander by the age of 28. Led a battalion of anti-aircraft guns from Normandy into Germany. His men were responsible for shooting down 64 enemy aircraft and significant direct ground support during the Battle of the Bulge. Earned Purple Heart, Bronze star for valor, numerous other awards.
