An Aviation pioneer and record-setter, Jacqueline "Jackie" Cochran was the founder and director of the Women's Air Force Service Pilots (WASP). Her achievements include the first woman to pilot a jet across the Atlantic, the first woman to break the sound barrier and the first woman to take off from an aircraft carrier. Her career culminated with more speed, altitude and distance records than any other pilot in the world, male or female. Her accomplishments set the pace for women in aviation and space exploration.
