Colonel Jones has had an extensive and varied 32 years of service.  He was initially commissioned into the United States Air Force in 1967. He served as a tactical air controller in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

 

In 1973 he was recommissioned in the United States Marine Corps.  He served tours of duty as an infantry officer, combat cargo officer, Naval Officer Instructor at the University of Idaho, executive officer of an infantry battalion, a ground operations officer at Combined Forces Command Korea, commanding officer of a Marine Corps Recruiting Station, and commanding officer of the 1st Recruit Training Battalion Parris Island, South Carolina.  Additionally, while at Parris Island, he also served as the Chief of Staff for the Marine Corps's Eastern Recruiting Region which included all Marine Corps recruiting activities east of the Mississippi River.  Subsequently, he was assigned as the operations officer for the Marine Corps Recruiting Command in Washington, DC.

He served his last tour of duty as the operations officer for Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton,CA.

Colonel Jones is a graduate of the Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School and the Navy War College.
