Joined the Navy in 1980. Served aboard USS Cook as an Operations Specialist 2nd Class Petty Officer until 1986. Reenlisted in 1988 aboard USS Fort Fisher. Served at Fleet Combat Training Center, Pacific as a First Class Petty Officer until 1993. Served at Commander US Naval Forces, Korea, until 1998. Served aboard USS Essex until 2000. Served at Afloat Training Group, Pacific
as a Chief Petty Officer until retiring in 2006.

Brian enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 18 in November 1980. He completed Operation Specialist School June 1981 and served aboard USS Cook (FF-1083), receiving an honorable discharge June 1986 as a 2nd Class Petty Officer. Brian reenlisted in February 1988 serving aboard the USS Fort Fisher (LSD-40), which included a tour in the Persian Gulf War starting in September 1990. Making First Class Petty Officer aboard the USS Fort Fisher he served at Fleet Combat Training Center Pacific, Point Loma, CA as an instructor in June 1993. He served the Commander US Naval Forces Korea for two years in March of 1996. In April 1998 Brian served aboard the USS Essex (LHD-2) where he became the Leading Petty Officer of his division, serving at the start Operation Enduring Freedom. Brian served at Afloat Training Center Pacific and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer. Serving as lead instructor for Harpoon and Tomahawk tactics Brian Turpin retired in November 2006.
