Captain T. J. Barnett’s 30 year naval career included assignments as Commanding Officer, USS HORNE (CG-30), in Operation Desert Storm, commissioning Commanding Officer, USS REID (FFG-30) and Commander, River Division 552/Commander, Middle Vam Co Dong River Patrol Unit during the Vietnam War. Additional sea assignments included Executive Officer, USS Richard L. PAGE (FFG-5), Weapons Officer and Navigator in USS Theodore E. CHANDLER (DD-717), and Communications Officer for COMDESRON FIVE and in USS HOEL (DDG-13). Shore assignments included Commanding Officer, Fleet Combat Training Center, Pacific; Assistant Director, Budget and Reports, Office of the Comptroller of the Navy (NCB) and Comptroller, Naval Sea System Command. In addition to financial management, Capt. Barnett was a proven subspecialist in International Negotiations. He served as the Assistant Branch Head for strategic and Theater Nuclear Negotiations in the office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OP65); and as a Military staff assistant with the US Arms Control and Disarmament Agency in Washington D.C. and Geneva, Switzerland.
