Captain Malcolm Heslip served his nation honorably during two of our country’s most perilous wars, World War I, starting as a Seaman 2nd class, and remaining in the Naval Reserve through World War II. He retired as a Captain, USNR, after War II.
Malcolm Heslip served in John Philip Sousa’s World War I Naval Marching Band. In 1940, he was recalled to active duty as a Lieutenant Commander, serving with the Fourth Interceptor Command. He graduated from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. He served in North Africa, the South Pacific, aboard the USS Tasker H. Bliss in the Mediterranean, and at the Navy Department in Washington, D.C.
After World War I, Malcolm Heslip graduated from the University of Illinois, later earning a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Southern California.
Malcolm Heslip was on the faculty of the University of Southern California, School of Business Administration, before World War II. After the War, he was a Professor and Administrator for the UCLA Graduate School of Management for two decades.
He was an accomplished writer, musician and artist. His avocations also included numismatics and he created several coin collections.
He was married to Marie Railsback for 50 years. They had one daughter, four granddaughters and five greatgrandchildren.
