Captain Lyon served as an Infantry Officer with the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines and 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines over two tours in Vietnam. He was wounded in action for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. For his heroic service, he was awarded the Silver Star.
Captain Lyon was also assigned in a liaison and advisory capacity to the 1st ARVN Division in Hue City operating throughout I Corps in South Vietnam.
