Sandy enlisted in the Marine Corps in December, 1967 and was seleced for the NESEP Officer program, earing a degree in Aerospace Engineering at Auburn Universite while on active duty. He served in Vietnam as a Senior Air Director For "I" Corps and completed missions across Asia. He was honorably Discharrged in 1971.
