This native son of Tyler, Texas exemplified a remarkable Naval career both on and under the seas. From 1951 graduate of Annapolis, to commanding USS Volador (SS-490), to Chief of the National Military Command Center, "Tex" used his photography, SCUBA diving and leadership skills to accomplish many scientific and dangerous missions, notably the first photos of the underside of the North Pole.
