Commisioned as an Ensign through the Aviation Reserve Officer Candidate (AVROC) Program, Captain Grundies was designated a Naval Flight Officer (NFO) and navigated ther Lockheed P-3 Orion, engaged in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Maritime Patrol globally. He redesignated as a Naval Aviator and continued to operate America's primary Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPAS). He was selected for Aviation Command at Sea and led the VRC-30 Providers, flying the Grumman C-2 Greyhound Carrier Onboard Delivery (COD) Aircraft and anff Aircraft Carriers and Naval Air Stations. Shore duties centered around his proven subspecialty of Finacial Management (Comptroller) whuch gave rise to his Call Sign: WARBUX. He proudly wore the aiguillette (loop) as the SPAWAR Admiral's Senior Aide. He retired with over 2500 Pilot hours and 100 Carrier Arrested Landings (Traps).
