Captain Clotfelter was one of only nine active-duty Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance Platoon Commanders in the mid to late 1990's. He was charged with executing complex ground intelligence gathering missions throughout SE Asia which involved the planning, preparation and execution of long range surveillance, environmental reconnaissance, target acquistion, area assessment, post-strike assessment, emplacement and recovery of sensors, support of Human Intelligence and Signals Intelligence operations, in addition to a myriad of amphibious-related tasks as a Combat Diver.
