Airman First Class Francis Lay, recipient of both a Good Conduct and National Defense medal, served as a gunner on the B-36 Bomber. The B-36 was the largest mass-produced piston-engine aircraft ever built. It was capable of intercontinental flight without refueling. In his role as a gunner, Airman Lay was portrayed in the 1955 movie "Strategic Air Command."
