During the 1st Marine Division's epic attack from northern Kuwait to Basrah, Al Kut, Baghdad and Tikrit in March and April 2003, the Marines, sailors, and soldiers of the 11th Marine Regiment sustained a high tempo of operations while moving farther and faster than any Marine Corps artillery regiment in history. Despite the arduous conditions, rapid advance, difficult terrain, and harsh weather, the 11th Marines provided uninterrupted fire support to 1st Marine Division maneuver units in every engagement of the campaign. The results of the 33-day campaign bear witness to the highly responsive, devastatingly accurate massed fires, and decisive impact the regiment had on the enemy and the equally positive impact the regiment had on the people of Baghdad after transitioning to civil-military operations.
